NCEA Endorsement Celebration

On Wednesday night the College celebrated the success of our top academic students at the annual NCEA Endorsement Celebration evening.  Students who had received Merit or Excellence Endorsements via their 2024 NCEA studies were acknowledged in front of their peers and family.  Guest speaker on the night was former student Dr. Laken Baker (CHBC 2010-2014). Laken studied medicine at Otago University and is now based at Hawke’s Bay Hospital as a General Surgery Registrar.  Dr. Baker spoke to those present about being self-motivated to learn, and to plan for success.  She noted that learning was lifelong, and that people need to continue to learn and grow and not to be put off by failure or challenges.  She reminded students that they should also involve themselves in things outside of study, such as sport or culture.  She said this would keep people physically active, involved in meeting and mixing with other people which was also important for people’s mental health. Dr Baker also reminded students to be kind and respectful and to be thankful for those that support you on your particular journey through life.
