
Shaye Andersen – Alternative Education and Careers Guidance
Shaye Andersen could be seen as another seasoned educator with 15 years of experience at CHB College.
Beginning her career in the classroom, Shaye initially taught Physical Education and Mathematics before transitioning into roles focused on supporting students in unique ways.
She has been Head of Learning Support but for the past eight years, she has been deeply involved in Gateway and STAR programs at Central Hawke’s Bay College, all while balancing the responsibilities of being a mother.
Based in Pōrangahau, Shaye lives on a farm with her husband and three young children. Beyond her family life, she plays an active role in our community, representing Hawke’s Bay CATE (Careers and Transition Education) on the NZ Executive team, member of or kāhui ako, and coaching sport in our Community.
With a keen eye on the evolving landscape of educational opportunities, Shaye is filled with excitement for the rangatahi of today, given the vast support and opportunities available to them. She is deeply passionate about helping young individuals discover their passions and strives to build strong connections within the community and wider sector to ensure the best opportunities for rangatahi.
Shaye prides herself on creating inclusive learning environments that prioritise holistic development. Her door is always open, encouraging anyone with questions about the complexities of education and career opportunities in today's world to seek her guidance and support.
Kim Walker – Gateway / Student Support / STAR / International and Alternative Education
Co-ordinator
Mrs Walker has been the Gateway / STAR Co-ordinator for the past 18 years.
Initially, Gateway had 18 students, today it boasts 46 students per year. Gateway is a programme that is designed to strengthen the pathway for students to progress from school to workplace learning. It is wonderful to see ex Gateway students now taking students on for work experience roles.
STAR is a fabulous programme which allows students to explore subjects / courses that we do not offer at CHB College.
Mrs Walker has also been the International Co-ordinator for 16 years, a job that is close to her heart as her family have hosted over 20 International students.
She is the Trophy Co-ordinator, a Health & Safety Representative and also promotes CHB Toastmasters and Lions through the school.
Having attended CHB College as a student, and also having had five children and now a grandchild, attend Central Hawke’s Bay College, she feels privileged to be a part of the wonderful community that is Central Hawke’s Bay College.

I have returned to CHB College after spending five years as a student. I loved it so much I returned to work with Star/Gateway students and help in the office when needed. When not at school I am a group fitness instructor and a berry farmer.
