Hockey Representatives
Congratulations to Emily Brun and Emma Johnson who are travelling to Hamilton to represent Hawke's Bay in the National Provincial Hockey Championships Senior Women's Hockey Team. Best of luck to you both.
Motocross Success
On Friday 1st of September, five students from Central Hawke’s Bay College participated in the 2023 North Island Secondary School Motocross Cross Country event held at Taikorea MX Park.
The CHB College team was represented by Aimee Thomsen, Jack Thomsen, Jordan Coles, Jacob Strong, and Cambell Donnithorne.
The event involved one and a half hours of riding on a sandy motocross and forestry track. One lap of the sandy track took an average of 30 minutes. The students were amped and rearing to accept the challenge. On the first lap they looked pumped, their pace was good and they were tackling the new unknown track well. Being such a long event all riders were expected to pit to fill up with fuel. This time allowed them to have a very quick breather and fuel up themselves with the glucose needed and then they were off again. They had to dig deep and they left all that they had out on the track. We saw great perseverance, determination, and skills from all of the riders. It was definitely not an easy riding event and they came away with bruises and scrapes but they all completed the event and they were able to show a smile once finished.
Individual placings for the day were Jordan 3rd and Aimee 12th in the 15-16 years 125cc class. Jack 6th and Jacob 21st in the 12-14years 125cc class, and Cambell 7th in the 12-16years 85cc class.
Our overall school placing was a well-deserved 6th out of 22 schools. Congratulations on representing Central Hawke’s Bay College, you did the school proud. Thank you to all the parents and friends who supported and encouraged the students to be involved in this event.

WINTER TOURNAMENT WEEK
Girls Football
The Girl’s First XI Football team faced strong competition in the Grant Jarvis Tournament in Palmerston North.
Suffering multiple injuries and having to rest several players we struggled to gain ground against some top teams. The girls continued to play with great heart and courage throughout the Tournament.
In our final game against Nga Tawa, we were down 2 nil at half time. In an exciting second half the girls fought back with Emma scoring and later Maddison scoring an equalizer finishing 2 all. A penalty shoot out was required to decide the outcome. With two amazing saves by Teagan, we won with 2 penalties from Isla and Maddie. An exciting finish!
The team was awarded the Fair Play Award for the Tournament gaining maximum points from all referees. Coach, Bob Morgan, and the management team were extremely proud of the way the girls carried themselves throughout tournament on and off the field.
We had an amazing time and the team gained valuable experience to take to next year’s competition.
Tournament Team members were: Ellyn Boyd, Eilidh Breen, Emma Davis, Hannah Del Mar, Chelsea Green, Isla Gregory, Tayla Hales, Bailey Littlejohn, Charlotte London (C), Emily Nesbit, Jasmine Osborne, Sophie Smith, Arva van Pelt (VC), Teagan Walton and Maddison Whittle.

Netball
Last week saw our Senior Netball Tournament Team compete in the Lower North Island Secondary Schools Tournament in Wellington.
Day one was harsh with three injuries, two tournament ending, but the girls were amazing and supportive, and continued their games with passion.
Overall the girls represented the College with pride on and off the court and made their Coach Miss Holmes and team management very proud, coming out with 5 wins, a draw and 3 losses. Their best result since 2019. Congratulations to all those involved.
Tournament Team members were: Tyler Camden, Danielle Hemi, Sheridan Linklater, Brenna Mackey, Zara Mackey, Lucy Macklow, Ashley McDonald, Melia Nielson, Billee Richardson, Tejaye Richardson, Sophie Strong and Talia TeAtua Pere.
Boys Football
For the second year our 1st XI were invited to take part in the NZSSF Football tournament in New Plymouth.
The tournament ran from Tuesday to Friday, we drove over to New Plymouth on the Monday settling in at the scenic Fitzroy Beach Holiday park.
We were placed in Pool A along with 4 other schools, Francis Douglas Memorial College (FDMC) from New Plymouth, Te Puke High School, Upper Hutt College and Tauranga Boys College - the largest boy’s school in NZ.
The team played some good football and were desperately unlucky to draw with FDMC and Te Puke High, a very tight game versus Upper Hutt saw them edge a win with an against the run of play goal, despite wave after wave of attacks we just couldn't find a goal. We were well beaten by group winners TBC.
After the group stage we entered the knockout with high hopes, again our inability to finish off our dominating mid field play saw us finish the tournament in 16th place out of the 20 teams.
It was a great week with some excellent football played and viewed by the boys, the whole team enjoyed their time in the Taranaki, and everyone is looking forward to the next tournament.
