Dancing Event

In the second week of the school holidays Jade Harrison, Hannah Jamieson, Isobel Howard and Rachel Renner flew to Christchurch to attend British Ballet Organizations Dance Days event.

The event is kicked off with a Theatre Awards competition day on the Sunday, where the dancers can perform solos and troupe dances that have qualified with a mark of 75 or more to enter. Jade and Rachel were awarded a Certificate of Outstanding Achievement from over 80 dancers in their age group. The girls also competed a troupe jazz dance in the senior category and came runner up and received a trophy.

The week that followed involved very full days attending seven dance classes each day, three syllabus (Ballet, Jazz and Tap) and four performance classes (Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Contemporary). All being taught by international tutors, examiner's and choreographers. After four days of classes everyone is involved in a Gala performance showcasing the work they have learnt and prizegiving.  Trophies are awarded to the top student in each of the three syllabus classes and Jade was awarded the Tap Excellence award for syllabus grade Intermediate Tap.

These four young ladies train many hours every week and presented themselves exceptionally well and did themselves proud.

Jade also attended the NZ School of Dance Winter School in Wellington in the first week on a ballet scholarship she was awarded by Hawke's Bay Ballet and Dance earlier in the year. An amazing experience.

Hockey Selection

Congratulations to Emily Brun and Emma Johnson who have both been selected to represent the Hawke’s Bay Senior Women’s team at the Ford National Hockey Championships being played in Hamilton from the 10th - 16th September. It is an amazing achievement to be selected to play hockey at this level and an exciting opportunity for the girls to play alongside and against current and former Black Sticks players.  Best of luck for the tournament.

Inter School Chess Tournament

We recently sent two teams to the Interschool Chess Tournament in Hastings.   They had an overwhelming number of entries this year (92 teams) so unfortunately could not send our third team along this time.  A great day out for these teams, and thanks to Mr Berry for transporting them and assisting numerous training sessions.  Team members that attended were, Kallum Chamberlain-Priest, Zachary Dakins, Carter Drake, Isaac Ellwood, David McIntyre, Jehoshua Monegro, Te Remine Peacock-Tahatu, and Isaki Uchida.

Basketball

The basketball season has come to an end for our Junior Gold team.  A very successful year with our boys placing 3rd overall.   Thanks go out to coaching teams, managers and those parents that put their hand up to drive each week. Congratulations!
