National Student Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (SCHOGM)

 Students Excelling

CHOGM Attendees from left; Isaac Ellwood, Arva van Pelt, James Ganley and Deluca Hay-James

Along with about fifty other students from throughout the country, four senior students attended SCHOGM in Wellington on Monday 17 & Tuesday 18 July.

The meeting was based in the Legislative Council Chambers and Grand Hall in the Parliament building. Year 13 students Deluca Hay-James and James Ganley along with Year 12 students Isaac Ellwood and Arva van Pelt were put in the role of Heads of Government of Fiji and New Zealand respectively.

The conference was designed to empower students to discuss and debate their way through some of the key issues facing today’s Commonwealth countries, forming and voting on resolutions. It encouraged students to take charge of their own learning and push their creative boundaries. Students developed new knowledge and competencies, as well as making friendships with others from schools across New Zealand.

We thank Jono Craig and his team with their support of the students to attend this event.
