HBSS Sports Awards

Congratulations to Bradley Booth, Deputy Prefect, for his tremendous sporting achievements this year. As a result he has been named as a finalist for the Hawke’s Bay Secondary Schools’ Sports Awards in the Official of the Year category.

Bradley has been umpiring for four years with this year being his most successful   He started umpiring mens and women's Div 2/3 and worked up to umpiring Div 1 men’s games eventually being offered to umpire U18 and U16s reps.  He has also umpired at national hockey championship level.  He was  awarded the Central Hockey Club Umpiring Award and the Hawke's Bay Hockey Most Improved Umpire Award this year.

Emily Brun - NZ Junior Black Sticks Camp

Emily Brun 16yrs was selected to attend the NZ Junior Black Sticks camp from 12th - 16th in October which was held in Cambridge.  Thirty two U18s were selected across NZ based on their performance at the recent National U18s Tournament, 34 U21 players were also selected to make up the 64 camp squad. Emily has come away from the experience with new skills, learning key concepts of the game and an insight of what it would be like as an athlete in the woman’s black stick team.  From the camp they will select an under 21 team to face Australia in the Junior World Cup qualifier in December 2022, and ultimately will qualify for the Junior World Cup 2023 in Chile. 

 

 
 

Summer Science Schools

Well done to both Cove Lambert and Jade Sandford who have been accepted to attend Science summer schools

Cove was successful with his application to attend the Rotary National Science & Technology Forum in Auckland 14 – 21 January 2023. We extend thanks to the Waipukurau Rotary Club for supporting Cove.

Jade will travel to Dunedin 15 – 20 January 2023 for the ‘Hands-On at Otago’ working in the Health Science area.
