May Peace Prevail on Earth – He Maungārongo ki runga i te whenua’

As part of World Peace Day, six students, along with Conrad Nepe Apatu and Mr Sherwood, travelled to Te Aranga Marae in Flaxmere to accept one of forty-three Peace Pou from the Hawke’s Bay Multicultural Association.

Over one hundred people from schools and a range of community groups and organisations from throughout Hawke’s Bay including two international ambassadors were welcomed onto the marae. The key messages given in the addresses were that there are no violent ways of addressing conflict, peace is not merely the absence of war and respect for others is peace.

The Peace Pou with the words ‘May Peace Prevail on Earth – He Maungārongo ki runga i te whenua’ and eighty-four other languages stood proudly in the Hastings Civic Square for five months over summer.

The Peace Pou will be erected here at school.
