2022 Student and Parent Elections

Board Student Election 2022

Standing for election or voting for a student representative is often the first real experience young people have of participating in a democratic process.

Student representatives have equal standing, voice, accountabilities and voting rights on the board. We find real value in being able to share their knowledge around the board table and they bring different points of view and experiences, which influences better outcomes for the whole school community.

The idea of being a young person on a school board might seem daunting, but student representatives get plenty of help and support to learn about and fulfil their role. The New Zealand School Trustees Association (NZSTA) provides training and learning opportunities, guidance and resources. Principals and Board chairs also take an active interest in supporting students to succeed.

As well as having a voice on how their school is governed, being a student representative provides valuable, real-world knowledge and experience for students.

Nominations for the position of Student Trustee representative on the Board of Trustees of Central Hawke's Bay College will be received by the Returning Officer from Monday, 22nd August.

Nomination forms and further particulars can be obtained from Mrs Baker, the Principal’s PA at the College.  A copy of the voting roll will also be available for inspection.

  • Nominations close at 12pm on Saturday, 27th August.
  • Nominees will be expected to support their nominations with a prepared address at full school assembly on Thursday, 8th September.
  • Voting will take place during Mentor Group Time on Monday, 12th September.
  • Votes will then be counted and announced on Monday, 19th September.
