Year 9 Health Checks

Central Hawke's Bay College is part of the School Based Health Service (SBHS), this is a service funded by the government and provides free health care for students in several secondary schools in Hawkes Bay.

Rebecca Holes and Kim Merwood are the Registered Nurses (RN) employed as Public Health Nurses (PHN’s) by the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board (HBDHB) to work in the College.   We work  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday during term time and are located next to Guidance Counsellors office in the learning support centre.  It is a private & confidential service.  We have wide experience of working with children and adolescents in schools and community settings.  We also collaborate with College staff, Guidance Counsellors, Teachers, Deans, GP’s and community agencies.

As part of the service all Year 9 students will be offered a health and development assessment. Their consent is required before this is completed. These health checks promote and support a young person’s physical, mental, social, spiritual and emotional wellbeing thus supporting their learning and school performance. This is an opportunity to assist and improve health outcomes for all students whilst encouraging positive youth development.

We look forward to this opportunity to meet your child. If you would like to speak to us about the our service please contact us via the school office.

Yours sincerely
