Coming up with an alternative program has been challenging, with a number of activities around Hawke’s Bay requiring anyone over the age of 12 to be double vaccinated to be allowed to do activities. Keeping it local has allowed us to keep the costs down, while still offering activities we hope the students will enjoy.
The outline for the three days is as follows.
Tuesday 7 Dec – In the morning we will be holding a Mentor Group competition at school with a number of activities determined by the students. At lunchtime we will go down to the Civic Theatre to watch the latest Marvel movie the Eternals.
Wednesday 8 Dec – The day will be spent at Lindsay Bush. We will walk down to Lindsay Bush on the lime stone trail. There will be activities, swimming and we will walk through the Lindsay Bush Tunnel. We will have a BBQ lunch.
Thursday 9 Dec – Students will rotate around three activities. The activities are Paintball, Mountain Biking and archery/air rifles. Paintball will have a cost of $30 and is not compulsory, alternate activities will be provided for anyone who does not want to play. The mountain biking will be run either in the Gumtree Park or along the river banks depending on the skill level and confidence of the group. There will be opportunities to swim at both the paintball and mountain biking activities. Archery and air rifles will be run by myself and another teacher. Both hold a current NZ firearms license, with a good understanding of the requirements to run this activity safely, considerable time and thought have been put into the safety management plan to allow us to run this activity.
The cost of the three days excluding paintball will be $30 and $60 if they wish to do paintball. Students will not require any additional money, as lunches etc. will all be provided. All activities will take place during school hours, buses will run as normal. Any students who are unable to do the activity days will be catered for at school.
Permission slips will need to be returned by Friday 3rd December and payment made or arrangements made with the Bursar by Monday the 6th December.
