Message from the Principal – 13 December 2024

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa

As this is the last newsletter this year, I want to wish everyone in our school community a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year as we move towards the festive season. As always, the year as gone very fast and I can’t believe that next year is 2025, a quarter of a way through the 21st century already.

I would like to thank all those involved in working at or supporting our wonderful school over the year. To the teachers and support staff, you are the beating heart of the school, and nothing happens without your hard work.  While working with 550 teenagers has its challenges, I know there is a huge sense of satisfaction at the achievement of our students.  I thank you all on behalf of the students, parents and caregivers and wish you all a restful time over the holiday period. To our students who have put in the mahi, well done and I hope you enjoy the success you deserve in your assessments. Having just read the junior reports, I can see that teachers are full of optimism for you, so enjoy a break and come back next year to be the best version of yourself. The key is to do the mahi, and remember that knowledge is not free, you have to pay attention.

The Board recently completed a communication survey. Thank you to those who gave us feedback as obviously this is a key component of making the school run smoothly. The key message for us was that we need to make it as easy as possible for the school community to access information. We also need to inform you better as to what these communication aspects are.  So if you are reading this newsletter, thank you, it has a wealth of current and future information and can be found weekly on a Thursday at the e-mail address you supply, via our website https://www.chbc.school.nz/ or our school App (see details in the diary or in this newsletter) and also on our Facebook page.  We are currently working on upgrading our website, you should be able to see this at the beginning of the 2025 school year.

Meri Kirihimete to all the CHB College whanau.

Holiday Office Hours

The College office will be closed from Friday 13th December at 1:00pm and will reopen on Monday 20th January 2025 from 9:00am to 2:00pm Monday to Friday until Monday 3rd February when normal office hours of 8:00am to 4:00pm will resume.

SCHOOL VALUES: ~ EXCELLENCE ~ HIRANGA ~

“He pai ake te iti i te kore”  A little is better than none.

Having read all the junior reports this week, it is clear that some effort is better than doing nothing.  The effort to turn up to class and be prepared to engage is the first step to achieving excellence.
