Message from the Principal – 15 May 2025
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa
We enjoyed hosting and were thoroughly impressed with the Year 8 students from throughout Central Hawke’s Bay and beyond who attended the Open Day here on Tuesday. 15 schools, 165 students. It promises to be a magnificent 2026 Year 9. I have begun visits to contributing schools as the process of enrolment for the 2030 College graduates begins.
With winter sport well underway, this week I would like to pay tribute to an often-unsung group of our community – our dedicated and unselfish parent and College volunteers. The people who manage to the find the time, patience and energy to attend training sessions, drive school vans and otherwise support our young people across numerous sports, activities and learning opportunities – without pay, sometimes giving up holidays, work and family time to be with other peoples’ children so that students at this College can be offered the widest range of activities. The College community appreciates our devoted volunteers who help assist with all of our school activities and ensure success for our students. We thank you. I also thank the College staff who also give so generously of their time supporting co-curricular activities.
While it is always pleasing to see the genuine focus in the classroom from the vast majority of our students, from time to time we need to revisit and remind some students of the agreement they made when they entered this College. An agreement that both students and parents signed their names to. The agreement reads ‘As a new student to Central Hawke’s Bay College, I undertake to give my best in academic work, to obey the school rules and to meet the standards of attendance, uniform and appearance. I also undertake to be co-operative, courteous and considerate to others at all times’. My interpretation - work hard, be good.
Attendance Goal = 90%
Finally, we wish students all the very best as they embark upon the Literacy and Numeracy assessments which begin next week.
