Message from the Principal – 11 April 2024
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa
As this is the last newsletter for Term One 2024. I would like to thank all those involved in supporting our students during the term. It has been a very busy term and students have had many opportunities for learning both inside and outside the classroom. It is especially pleasing considering the disruptions caused by the current building projects which have not always made things easy for teachers or students. We will be glad to have the Administration Block and Gymnasium back in operation from the start of next term.
Last week I wrote about an ERO report and student behaviour. This week we had a meeting with our College Partners who are currently involved in supporting staff and students at the school with a variety of individual or group support. We are very fortunate to have our partners support available with other groups and individuals that each, in their own way, contribute to the success our students enjoy.
Our current list of partners includes, Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga, Capital Training, CONNECT Youth & Community Trust, EPIC Youth Services, He Taonga Tāmata, Jobs in Central Hawkes Bay, Complete Coaching HB, Hawkes Bay Chamber of Commerce.
As you will see from the list our partners cover a wide range of areas of support for our students. Leadership, mentoring, employment and future pathways, drivers licencing, counselling, addiction support, further education and training. Often this support is provided alongside groups working with families or siblings from other schools. We are delighted to have our partners working alongside our college staff with the focus on keeping them, safe, happy, engaged and connected with a forward focus on achieving a bright future. On behalf of our staff, students, parents and caregivers thank you all for your mahi in support of our amazing kura.
This Friday will also be the last day of teaching for two staff Mr Port and Mrs Dawson. We thank them for their outstanding service to the College and wish them all the best for their retirement. Finally, I wish all those associated with the school a safe and happy holiday break.

SCHOOL VALUES: ~ RESPECT ~ WHAKANUIA ~
“Kauai e mate wheke mate ururoa” Don't die like an octopus, die like a hammerhead shark.
Octopus are renowned for their lack of resistance when being captured, however a hammerhead shark will fight bitterly to the end, to the point that when you fillet it fresh, its meat quivers. This whakataukī is used to encourage someone not to give up, no matter how hard difficult things may get. Kia kaha, always do your best.
