Message from the Principal – 03 February 2023

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa

Welcome to the 2023 school year to all members of our College community.  I do hope that people had the chance to spend time with family and enjoy the chance to recharge for the new year.

As you likely aware, a tragic event occurred that impacted on one of our school families. Mr Ian Cruickshank and Year 11 student Samuel Cruickshank passed away as a result of the incident. Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to Mrs Donna Cruickshank, Isabella, Ben and Jamie at this time. I know the impact of this on the family must be devastating and it has been heartening to see the community rally around the family, such as supporting them through the Give-a-Little page that was set up for them.  We know the impact will also be felt by the wider community and our staff and students and we have put measures in place to support those that need it.

Communication:

We do our best to communicate with our families.  We have weekly newsletters sent out via e-mails, these are also uploaded to our website, school app and facebook page. Paper copies can be picked up from the office if needed. Our website has a wealth of information www.chbc.school.nz  and the school App is also a very useful tool in getting the most up to date information. Our school diary (to be issued week 2) is also a quick reference for information as well.

There will be times when we give students information to take home, mainly things that have to be signed off. At College the students are expected to manage themselves and as such they need to ensure they pass information on when it is required to be completed.   We encourage parents and caregivers to contact us if they have any concerns relating to their children.  Your first point of contact will likely be your child’s Mentor.

You will be contacted by your children’s Mentor Teacher early in the term, so please ask them any questions you may have as they may be able to help you.

Year 9 and new parents evening is being held on Tuesday 14th February for those able to attend.

School Values – R.I.C.E. - Respect.  Integrity. Community. Excellence

Members of the College community will hear a lot about our school values again this year. Our values which are well explained in our school diary are our guide to what behaviours we expect at college.  This is explained further in a Matrix at the front of the diary pages 4 and 5.

School Uniform

A reminder about the CHB College school uniform.  Information on this can be found on our website or in the diary. If parents have any questions or concerns about their children’s uniform, let us know so we can do our best to support you.

A reminder that students hair needs to be tidy and of natural colour and that jewellery is not permitted apart from one small stud being worn in each ear.  Piercings are not permitted, this includes, but is not limited to nose, lip, gum, eyebrow and tongue.

The school bucket sunhat and school cap are available at the Bursar’s office and jackets and polar fleeces from the school office.
