       Learning expectations  of students studying Year 11 Food & Nutrition

 

  • Know the four food groups and nutrients found in each group.
  • Draw a food pyramid (using the four food groups)
  • Recognise what foods are high in fat, salt and sugar in the food pyramid.
  • Have knowledge of salt, sugar and fat in the diet.
  • Name the 6 essential nutrients.
  • Know why the body requires the 6 essential nutrients including calcium, iron, simple and complex carbohydrates, vitamin C and D.
  • Know which vitamins are water soluble and fat soluble.
  • Know the NZ Food & Nutrition Guidelines.
  • Know the recommended servings for the four food groups.
  • Be able to write balanced meal plans.
