Debating is offered at all levels. Students compete against local schools at a Junior, Intermediate or Senior level.Trips to films and plays are arranged as available.

Rotary sponsor a speech competition each year, the preparation for which is completed in class.

Australian English writing and reading competitions are offered to all levels.

Students are encouraged to enter writing and poetry competitions as they are advertised during the year.

Workshops with visiting authors.

Senior students have the opportunity to apply for the Bell Gully writers workshops.
