Central Hawkes Bay College currently have seven teachers in the English Department.

English is a compulsory subject for all our students from Year 9 to Year 12. Year 13 students are able to choose English as a subject if they so wish.

JUNIOR SCHOOL:
The junior programme is currently broken into units of curriculum  which cover the following:

  1. Creative writing
  2. Poetry
  3. Formal writing
  4. Novel Study
  5. Film study
  6. Static Images

The aim is to give the students the foundation required for NCEA in Year 11.

SENIOR SCHOOL:
The senior programme is divided into Levels 1-4 NCEA. Years 11 and 12 are further split into 3 groups- English NCEA with emphasis on Achievement Standards, NCEA Literacy classes with a mixture of achievement standards and Unit standards, and Practical English classes studying unit standard work.
